Herstle Lee Cross, age 89, of Huntsville, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at his home with his children and grandchildren at his side as he passed from this life to be with his Savior. He was born May 10, 1925 in Scott County, Tennessee to the late Charlie Franklin Cross and Nancy Gladys Cross. He graduated salutatorian from Huntsville High School in 1943, and he was a deacon and member of the First Baptist Church of Huntsville and retired from many years as an international real estate developer and broker. Mr. Cross was a World War II Veteran of the United States Navy, a graduate of the University of Texas-Pan American, in Edinburg, TX and member of the United Lenape and Munsee Delaware Indian Nations and will be remembered by his peers and relatives as a devoted Christian and servant of his Lord and Savior. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Franklin Cross and Nancy Gladys Cross. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 69 years, Leela Deola Cross of Huntsville, TN; (3) Children: Leesa Jane Gotleib and husband Sal of Spring, TX, Herstle Lee Cross, Jr and wife Marcia of Knoxville, TN, Nancy Lynne Rogers and husband David of Alva, FL. Grandchildren: Katherine Elizabeth Cross of Houston, TX, Ryan David Cross and wife Jill Ruea Cross of Los Angeles, CA, Laura Christina Wheeler and husband Ryan Alan Wheeler of Liberty, MO, Debbie Lynne Tuxhorn and husband Joe Tuxhorn of Seattle, WA, and Nathan Alan Cross and wife Kathleen An Cross of Oak Ridge, TN; (10) Great Grandchildren; Brother: Donald F. Cross of Baytown, Texas; Special Friends: Patricia Aiken and Charles Lance, Gary and Lisa Sexton and special thank you to everyone who helped us during our lives; several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6:00 P.M. until time of funeral services at 8:00 P.M., Tuesday Evening, August 12, 2014 in the Chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home in Huntsville with Bro. Dale Smith, Bro. Kevin Terry and Bro David Acres Officiating. Music will be provided by the Allen Sisters. Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday Morning, August 13, 2014 at the Potter Cemetery in Huntsville with full Military Honors provided by American Legion Post #136. Pallbearers will be the Deacons at the First Baptist Church of Huntsville. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: First Baptist Church of Huntsville Sanctuary Fund 3281 Baker Hwy. Huntsville, Tennessee 37756.
