Poppo joined the U.S. Army in Evansville, Indiana on 17 Jan 1941, fought during WWII and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He and Daye raised their family in Warner Robins, Georgia.

I knew Poppo and Daye, but not very well. I visited and vacationed in their home on a few occasions and had at least some contact with their adult children, who were siblings of my step father. Outside of that, I do not know their extended family very well, though we did go to a few annual family reunions while I was a teenager.
