The 1 December 1893 Berea Advertiser ran the obituary of Dr. Paulus: Death's Doings C.F. Paulus! Death of a Distinguished German Theologian Rev. C.F. Paulus, D.D. died Wednesday evening, November 29,1893 after an illness of about six months during which he had suffered two strokes of paralysis. In his death German Methodism loses one of its strongest theologians, and the College suffers the loss of an eminent scholar and divine whose chair will be hard to fill. He was born on Salon by Ludwigsburg, Koenigrich, Wurtenberg, June 26, 1843 and was educated at Burg, Salon, Baden and Halle. He has served the College since 1874 filling the chair of Theology with eminent ability and signal success. He was dearly beloved by all who knew him. He leaves a wife and two daughters. The funeral services occur this Friday p.m. 2 o'clock- College Chapel- conducted by Rev. Dr. H. Liebbart of Cincinnati."
