Paul Rainey, 87, of Bay Terrace, a retired Citibank vice president who is remembered as a loving father, died Sunday at Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze.
Born in Brooklyn, he lived there until moving to Bay Terrace in 1971.
Mr. Rainey served in the U.S. Army during World War II. A private first class, he was wounded while seeing dutyin France and Germany.
He obtained his undergraduate degree in accounting and law from St. John's University at its former Brooklyn campus.
Mr. Rainey had a twenty-three-year career with Citibank in its general counsel's office, retiring as a vice president in 1993.
He enjoyed traveling, stamp collecting, and handicapping horse races. He also liked working on crossword puzzles.
Mr. Rainey was a parishioner of St. Charles R.C. Church, Oakwood.
His wife of forty years, the former Arlene Gandolfo, died in 1994.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Rainey.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday from the Colonial Funeral Home, New Dorp, with a mass at 9:15 a.m. in St. Charles Church.
Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood.
