Lieutenant Bryan was a member of Communication Carrier Division, U.S. Navy. On October 16, 1952, he was a passenger on a C-46D Commando transport on a courier run between Kangnung Airfield (K-18) to Pohang Airfield (K-3), South Korea when it crashed into the sea killing all 25 servicemen on board. His remains were not recovered.

Navy Commendation Ribbon, Combat Action Ribbon, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
