MRS. BEN OPIE DIED AT HOME ON HIGH ST. TUESDAY
Death, following several weeks of severe illness, claimed Mrs. Elizabeth Ellen Opie, wife of Bennett Opie, at 141 High street yesterday morning, the demise taking a woman who had resided in the community continuously for 59 years.
A native of Illogan, England, Mrs. Bennett Opie, then Elizabeth Ellen Argall, was little more than 10 years of age when her family came direct to Grass Valley and it has been her home ever since.
Of recent years, her health had not been of the best and she was forced to confine herself and activities mainly to her home, but older Grass Valleyans will recall the years in which Mrs. Opie was quite interested in community and church affairs.
The body will be returned to the family home on High street this morning, where friends will be welcome to call. The services have been scheduled for 1:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon and will be held at the Opie home with Rev. Charles F. Washburn of the Episcopal church officiating. The funeral will be conducted by the Jefford Funeral Parlor.
Mrs. Opie was the wife of Bennett Opie of Grass Valley; mother of Mrs. Helen Marks, Wickenburg, Arizona; sister of A. J. Argall, Sacramento; F. L. Argall, Los Angeles; Miss Jennie Argall and Miss Susie Argall, Berkeley; grandmother of Robert Marks, Wickenburg, Arizona.
