FUNERAL TUESDAY FOR JOHN VAUGHT, AGE 77
Funeral services will be held at the Needham Christian church Tuesday morning at 10:00 for John Vaught, one of the best known farmers of Johnson county and a lifelong resident, who died at his home just across the Shelby county line, early Sunday morning following an illness of several months.
Mr. Vaught had been in failing health for several months but had refused to give up his work and had seemingly recovered from a previous illness when he was again confined to his bed about one week ago. Death resulted from heart trouble and complications at 5:30 Sunday morning. …. Burial in Greenlawn cemetery.
The son of George W. and Mary Snow Vaught he was born in the old Pisgah neighborhood, October 10, 1850 and the remaining years of his life had been spent in that community. For many years Mr. Vaught had been a farmer, retiring only at the insistence of his family when they moved to a small farm just across the Shelby county line. Mr. Vaught had been a member of the old Pisgah Presbyterian church for many years and was also a member of the Knights of Pythias order at Needham.
He had been united in marriage two times, the first wife having been Jane Ann Terman, who died in 1880, leaving three children, Claude Vaught and Mrs. Pearl Norton of Johnson county and Walter Vaught of Shelby county who survive. A number of years after her death, Mr. Vaught was united in marriage to Dora Hensley and she with two children Miss Helen and Henry Vaught, who are at home, survive.
Mr. Vaught had a great number of friends throughout the county and especially in the Needham community where his life had been spent. As long as his health had permitted he had been a frequent caller at homes where there was sickness and was always one of the first to offer his services as a nurse or in other ways of assistance.
One brother and a sister, William Vaught and Mrs. Laura Coble of Greenwood, also survive his death.
