Joseph Thomas "Joe" Robinson was born on July 10, 1881 in Macon County, Tennessee, the son of King Robinson (1841–1921) and Eliza (Younger) Robinson (1841–1916).

He was married on January 10, 1904 in Macon County to Dora Frances Green (1 Oct, 1888–28 Jul 1969), the daughter of Benjamin Green (ca 1854– ) and Mary (Evans) Green (ca 1870– ).

A carpenter living at 308 Van Buren Street, Nashville, he was 61 years old and married when he died at home on July 3, 1943 of a cerebra hemorrhage. Burial was two days later in Dixon Springs Cemetery, Smith County.
