She was the daughter of Alfred and Frances (Winker) Klein. Her family moved to Nekoosa Wisconsin when she was a teenager, and she graduated from Nekoosa High School. She attended The University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated from UW-Stevens Point. She started the UW-Hospital bacteriology lab. She was employed at the Aurora Pharmacy in Clinton Wisconsin and was formerly employed by the Clinton Topper. Sharon was active as 4-H leader with the Rock County 4-H directing plays, the queen's coronation, and served on the fair board. She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church, Clinton, and a member of the Rock Prairie Homemakers.
