Moran Saylor, 89, of Evarts, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital. Born August 6, 1924 in Harlan County, he had lived here all of his life. Moran was self-employed as a carpenter and had worked outside at various coal mines including Karst-Robbins Coal Company. Moran loved the Lord, the Bible, witnessing to people and he believed in the Baptist faith.

Moran is preceded in death by his wife, Alice Elizabeth Rivers Saylor; parents, Dorothy Kelly Saylor and Millard Fillmore Saylor; one sister, Myrtle Sexton; and three brothers, Oscar, Rufus and Millard Saylor.

Survivors include three children, Ted Saylor, Brookside; Lena Hayes and husband, Johnny, Harlan; and Carolyn Smith and husband, Larry, Harlan; four sisters, Eileen Hall, Lexington; Hazel Ball, Georgia; Bobby Sue Peace and husband, Jay, Closplint; and Lola Inez McCartney, Lexington two brothers, Edward Marshall Saylor, Georgia; and J.D. Saylor and wife, Irene, Closplint.

Also surviving are three grandchildren, Kevin “Kyle” Hayes and wife, Shannon; Melissa Hall and husband, Earl; and Morgan “Moe” Saylor; five great-grandchildren, Mackenzie “Kenzie” Hayes, Brayden “Brady” Hayes, Gunner “Little Gunny” Hayes, Cody Hall and Brittany Saylor, and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 24, 2014, from 5 until 7 PM in the Chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 PM with the Reverend Joey Robertson and Reverend Jerry Kirby officiating.

Entombment services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 AM at the Evarts Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
