Charlie William Yancey, 94, died Saturday at the Newberg Care Home.

He was born to J.S. and Emma Glaspy Yancey in Ada, Okla. He was raised and schooled in Oklahoma.

He moved to Oregon in 1935, settling in Albany. He worked for many years for the U.S. Bureau of Mines. He moved to Newberg in 1988.

His hobbies included woodworking, crafts, rock collecting and gardening, and he was a member of the Newberg Church of God.

Survivors include wife Vivian of Newberg; sons Charlie of Medford, Robert of Lebanon and Gary of Bend; stepsons Vincent and Wayne Cook of Newberg; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eunice, in 1983, and his brother Frank and sister Dora.

His service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at River Street Church of God in Newberg, with Pastor Ron Palmer officiating. Burial will be at Fir Crest Cemetery in Monmouth.

Memorials may be sent to the Helping Hands Shelter in Albany in care of Macy and Son Funeral Directors, 135 N. Evans, McMinnville, OR 97128.
