Services for Melissa, wife of Mr. William Sterling of this place, were held from her late home in Asbury at 2:30 p.m. last Monday. Rev. W. F. Corkran officiated, and interment was in Asbury cemetery. The deceased was the daughter of Mrs. Charles Byrd. She leaves four girls and two boys. They are: Mrs. Vernon Sterling, Mrs. Samuel Justice and Mrs. John Dorman, Miss Doris Sterling, Messrs. Carl and Willis Sterling. She was a kind mother and good neighbor and highly respected in the community.

Conflicting dates of birth and death Although her gravemarker reads 1868-1919, Melissa Sterling's MD Death Certificate shows Malissa Sterling, b. 2 Aug 1865, MD, d. 20 Feb 1920, Lawsonia, MD, aged 54 yrs, 6 mos and 26 days. She was a married housewife, the wife of William Sterling. Her parents are listed as Augustus Dize and Elizabeth Mister, both of Maryland.
