Son of Jacob Hoover and Jacob's second wife, Anna. Grandson of Switzerland immigrants, Hans & Margaret (Koch) Huber. Some people have listed Matthias wife Mary's maiden name as Gefeller. There is no documentation to support this anywhere, that I have found, but someone based it on the fact that Matthias & wife left Lancaster County, Pennsylvania with his brother-in-law A. Gefeller and wife. But the KNOWN fact is that "A. Gefeller" was married to one of Matthias' sisters, thus the "brother-in-law" relationship but there is nothing to support Matthias' wife being a Gefeller. Will we ever know the maiden name of Matthias' wife, or his mother Anna, for that matter? Perhaps not this side of Heaven, but then again, there have been old obscure records surfacing from surprising sources in recent years, so perhaps there is a chance something will surface and surprise all of us who have searched every source we could think of--and then some!!!

We are not even 100% certain that "Old" Matthias is buried in this location, but it was undoubtedly a graveyard of his relatives, as it was in the middle of his vast amount of property and the graves, mostly covered with very roughly hewn slab-stones, were undoubtedly of the very earliest settlers of the area.
