J. L. Abel, 72 years of age, a prominent resident of Smithland, died at 4 o'clock this morning at his home. Mr. Abel had been seriously ill following a stroke of paralysis last Sunday. This was the second paralytic strike with the year.
Mr. Abell had been a resident of Livingston county since childhood. He owned large farming interests in Livingston county and had been engaged in farming for a number of years. In 1892 he was elected county judge of Livingston county and served for two terms, filling the office in a worthy manner.
Mr. Abell is survived by his widow and five children, Sam Abell of this city, connected with the Foreman Auotmobile company; J. Fer? Abell, of Louisville, vice president of the First National Bank; Miss Laura Abell of Smithland; Gabe Abell, of Paducah and Miss Emma Owen Abel of Washington, D. C.; W. E. Abell of Smithland, is a nephew and J. O. Rutter of this city, is a son-in-law.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon from the residence with burial at Smithland cemetery. All members of the family will attend the funeral services. Mr. Rutter will leave this afternoon for Smithland on the 2 o'clock steamer.
