Maurice, Vincent, McCudden, youngest of four McCudden brothers, who included the legendary flying ace, James McCudden. All three elder brothers died in the First World War. Maurice was living near Ham Common, in Kingston Upon Thames, when he married Emily Huckle, who had been born in my home village of Hampton Wick, where her father was landlord of the Station Hotel from 1900 to 1905. After his death, in 1908, Emily's widowed mother set up a confectioner's near Kingston Railway Station. Like his brothers, Maurice had been employed in aviation. His death, only six years after his marriage, was associated with colitis. The Huckle family left Hampton Wick before my family arrived but became acquainted later through hairdressing. Maurice's mother outlived him by twenty years and his wife by fifty.
