MRS. ROSE HOVLAND
Funeral services for Mrs. Rose Hovland were held Monday at ten o'clock at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Bloomer. Father Jerome Hoeser officiated at the Requiem High Mass and the prayers of interment in the North Catholic Cemetery. The Women's Choir sang during the Mass.
The pallbearers were: LeRoy Reetz, Glen Petska, Charles Monarski, Frank Babbitt, George Ronnestrand and Jesse Klund.
Friends and relatives attended the funeral from St. Louis, Missouri, Waukesha, Milwaukee, St. Cloud, Chippewa Falls, Sand Creek, New Auburn, Ladysmith, Wausau, Defiance, Ohio, St. Paul, Minneapolis, Colfax, Stevens Point and the surrounding community.
Mrs. Hovland was born Rose Bemel on September 19, 1896 in the Town of Woodmohr. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Bemel.
In 1915 she was united in marriage to William A. Hovland and made their home in Bloomer. In the early thirties they took over the restaurant and hotel known as the Hovland Hotel and operated it until 1957 when they retired and moved to the Town of Highland in Douglas County. Two years ago they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Joseph B. (Cleone) Flood of Waukesha, Wisconsin and two sons, Lynn of St. Louis, MO, Theodore J. of Milwaukee; 2 sisters, Mrs. Grace Moody, Ashland, Kentucky; Mrs. Louis Reetz, Sr of Bloomer; Mrs. Pete Monarski, St. Cloud, Minn.; 21 grand-children and two great-grand-children. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorothy in 1918; two sisters, Mrs. Tillie Petska & Mrs. Margaret Schidecker; one brother, John Jr. & three half-brothers, Wolf Bemel, Emil Miller and Felix Miller.
Friends called at Rock Funeral Home from Sunday noon until time of the services. The Rosary and Altar Society recited the Rosary at 3 p.m. at the Chapel and a parish rosary was recited at 7:30 Sunday evening.
