Allen Eastham Powell, 86, of Front Royal, Virginia, died Friday, August 8, 2014 at Amerisist Assisted Living Residences, Front Royal.

He was a 1945 graduate of Warren County High School in Front Royal, Virginia.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Maddox Funeral Home at 11 a.m. conducted by The Rev. Dr. R. Mark Jordon. Burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery will be private.

Mr. Powell was born December 15, 1927, in Front Royal, VA, son of Samuel Baden and Sara Margaret Eastham Powell.

He was a retired bricklayer and a life member of Brick Layers Union #10. Mr. Powell was particularly proud of the brickwork he did for the Warren County Korea and Vietnam War Memorial and the Front Royal Village Commons.

Mr. Powell was also proud of boxing in the Golden Gloves and being named "Fightingest Fighter" in the 1944 competition.

He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran serving with the 382nd Military Police Battalion. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Front Royal.

Surviving are two sons, Roger Allen Powell of Pacifica, California, and his wife Diane; Robert Lewin Powell of Reston and his wife Linda; and a daughter, Angela Louise Powell Melton of Charlottesville and her husband Russ; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

The family would like to express gratitude to Barbara Faauaa for her loving care and friendship and would like to thank the entire staff of Amersist for making Mr. Powell feel at home during his time there.

Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Bailey Powell and a brother, William Baden Powell.

The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or Blue Ridge Hospice.
