Another Pioneer Dead - Wm. Bixby died February the 8th and was buried February 9th at Bixby's Ranch,where he had lived many years. He was born in New York in 1814, leaving there in 1849 and coming overland to California. He was al was [sic] (always) interested in the education of youth, and in the development of the resources of the country.
The impressive funeral service of Episcopal church was read with appropriate remarks by Rev. C. M. Hoge. Many friends and relatives accompanied the remains to its last resting place. He sleeps by the side of his beloved wife in a beautiful spot among the redwoods, overlooking the ocean and in sight of the mountains. He leaves one son-Charles Bixby and numorous[sic] relatives and friends to mourn his loss.-Com.


In a letter dated Apr of 1952 from his daughter, Alta Bixby Gregg,to a Mrs. Kelly on the Big Sur coast, "My grandmother and grandfather are buried there. The rest are neighbors."
