Walter Wadell James, 57, died in a Meridian Hospital at 1:35 Sunday a.m. after an illness of less than four weeks. Mr. James was stricken suddenly at his home with thrombosis pectoris and was seriously ill until his death.

Mr. James was an attorney by profession and a member of the Mississippi Bar Association. In recent years he had been very active as a real estate dealer handling land and timber, oil leases and royalties. He was a member of the board of deacons and an official in the Newton Baptist Church, of which he was very active, also a member of the Newton Lions Club.

Funeral services were held from the Newton Baptist Church in the afternoon. Interment was made in the Masonic Cemetery. The Rev. R.A. Morris, pastor assisted by Rev. J.e. Wills, Newton and C.C. Holland, Canton, officiated at the final rites.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Beulah Ward James; four daughters, Mrs. J.B. Avery, Jr., Alamo, Tenn., Mrs. J.T. Smith, Newton, Mrs. H.P. McCormick, Newton, Walter Ann James, Newton; two small grandchildren, three brothers, P.T., Newton; D.J., Mobile, Ala., and G.F. James, Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters; Mrs. C.H. Wall and Mrs. Janie Fanning, Montrose.
