Obituary: Karen Marie Johnson Ramsey
January 26, 1950 - August 7, 2014
Leicester, North Carolina | Age 64
Our Sweet Mother, Sister, Granny, Friend

Karen Marie Ramsey, "Granny", 64, of 20 Karn Road, graced Heaven's Gates on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the John F. Keever Jr. Solace Center in Asheville, North Carolina. Born in Anchorage, Alaska, she was a long time resident of Buncombe County. She was the daughter of the late Milton Garnet and Jeannine Marie [Emerson] Johnson of Asheville. In addition to her father, Karen was also preceded in death by her beloved siblings, Kathy and Steven Johnson.

Karen attended Lee-Edwards High School in Asheville, NC and studied at Asheville-Buncombe Technical College to be an interpreter for the deaf. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed learning new things, particularly in the area of Bible study. She was a volunteer at heart and worked with the ARC for people with disabilities, and was involved for several years with the 4-H organization with her son Justin. Their group won numerous awards, including high placement at the Mountain State Fair.

Granny loved the Lord and found joy in praise and worship. She attended Mountain Vintage Fellowship Church in Arden, NC and Covenant Community Methodist Church in Fairview, NC, where she was an active member of the healing ministry. As a faithful member of the Mountain Chapter of the International Order of Saint Luke Healing Ministries, Karen was a dedicated and active prayer warrior. She spent countless hours in prayer for her family, friends and anyone in need. She cared deeply and immediately prayed for any issue, large or small. Along with loving Jesus, Karen loved her family and friends. Relationships were far more important than "things." She was happiest showering her grandchildren with attention and hugs. She loved making arts and crafts, piñatas at Christmas, and gingerbread houses. Trips to the library and the park were her specialty. She was a blessing to all those in her life. She was an angel among us and what we like to call a "K.A.W."

Surviving are sisters Judy Johnson and wife Heather of Asheville, Barbara Johnson of Asheville, and Patricia Johnson of Swannanoa; daughters Jeanie & Brad Burris of Whitsett, and Robin & Thomas Bailey of Candler and sons; Michael C. & Mariah Ramsey of Waynesville, Matthew T. & Debra Ramsey of Zirconia, and Justin S. & Bobbie Ramsey of Asheville; grandchildren Michael C. Ramsey, Jr., Taylor Ward, Lillie and Holden Bailey, Skyler Hale, Taylor, Andrew and Holly Grace Ramsey, and Tanner Baker as well as numerous other extended family members living around the United States.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Pisgah View Memorial Park in Candler with Minister David Warren officiating.
