Marvin Leroy Beck, 80, of Nebo, NC went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Leroy was born in Burke County, NC on January 23, 1934 to the late Loy and Altamae Carpenter Beck. He was a member of Linville United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. He also served as Chairman of the building fund and cemetery committee. He retired from the NC Wildlife Resources Commission after working 33 years, serving as superintendant at Table Rock Fish Hatchery for 25 years. He also served on the nominating committee for Rutherford Electric Association for many years. His passions in life were beekeeping, gardening, maintaining his orchard and Koi pond, hunting, reading and spending time with his family at the beach. He enjoyed working outdoors and loved all the wildlife that surrounded him.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his niece, Sharon Beck of Morganton.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eudine Ollis Beck of the home; two daughters, Susan Beck-Williams and her husband, Mark of Rural Hall, NC, Robin Whitt and her husband, Mike of Somerset, KY; a granddaughter, Lindsay Henson of Greenville, NC; brothers, Jerry Beck of Morganton; James Beck and his wife, Dottie of Morganton.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Linville United Methodist Church with Rev. Jennifer N. Hiatt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
