Age 82, of Riverside, CA, passed away at home with his family, on August 1, 2014. Richard was born November 1, 1931 in Duluth, MN. He was a resident of Riverside, CA for 55-years. Richard served in the United States Air Force as a 1st Gunner, then later an Aircraft Refueling Operator. In August of 1953, Richard received the Caterpillar Pin for saving his own life when the plane he was in caught fire and crashed at Picacho Peak, AZ. As a Staff Sgt., Richard received his Honorable Discharge from Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson, AZ. Upon his discharge, he moved to San Bernardino, CA and became part owner of a Mobil service station in Grand Terrace, CA. In 1959, Richard moved his family to Riverside and joined the Millwright and Machinery Erectors Union. He was a member of Local 1113 from 1959 to 1995, when he retired. Richard enjoyed working on his home and traveling with his wife, Ruth. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Dickey of Riverside; daughter, Carol Reay and husband Frank Reay of Hesperia, CA; daughter, Barbara Dickey and husband Dilip Anketell of Houston, TX and daughter, Lois Cogan of Sun City. Richard has 4 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Riverside National Cemetery on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 12:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to your favorite charity .
