Gary Lee Wilcox, 75, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 2, 1939 in Waterloo, son of Victor and Eva Morse Wilcox. He married Pauline Gardner on Jan. 13, 1963 in Evansdale.

Gary graduated from Waterloo East High in 1957, and attended Iowa State University, majoring in engineering before transferring to the University of Northern Iowa, graduating in 1962 with a degree in science education. He taught high school math, chemistry and physics in Anita and Farmington for three years before taking a position with Shaeffer Pen Co. in Fort Madison.

In 1969, he went to work for Chamberlain Manufacturing and in 1991, became the Blackhawk County Solid Waste Management Commision Administrator/Resource Conservation and Recovery Officer, retiring in 2006. He was a founding member of the Turkeyfoot Longrifles.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Pamela (Dennis) McGary of Overland Park, Kan., and Tamera (Mike) Shaw of Iowa City; one son, Mark (Danica) of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren; and two brothers, Varrel of Evansdale, and Larry (Judy) of Albuquerque, N.M.

HGe was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be 3 p.m. August 23 at St. Mark's Methodist Church in Evansdale, preceded by an hour of visitation.
