Mr. H.B. "Jake" Porter of Mt. Enterprise was born to the late Charlie and Bonnie Ida Simmons Porter. Jake faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return, he went to work for his brother at H.V. Porter Contractors, eventually reaching the position of foreman. Jake was also a member of the Ancient Free & Accepted Masons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: five brothers, C.B., Elmo, Jaras, Boots, and Henry Vaughn Porter; and three sisters, Zudora Deaton, Daphne Turner, and Opal Ree Wilson.
