Geneseo,N.Y.,Livingston Democrat,Wednesday,May 23,1888
Fowlerville and vicinity were largely represented at the funeral of Colonel McPherson on Monday at Avon, and also on the occasion of the last sad rites over the remains of Mrs. Donald McPherson on Thursday. Donald McPherson who died a few years since, married Jean Calder in 1828, and the couple settled on the farm now owned by their son Daniel, near this village. Five children were born to them, and here the family resided until 1876, when Mr. and Mrs. McPherson moved to Avon. Senator McPherson of New Jersey, and Daniel, of New York city, are the only surviving children. The sturdy pioneers by their many sterling virtues gained the confidence and affectionate regard of everyone, and a feeling akin to that of personal bereavement was experienced by the entire neighborhood when it was learned that the aged mother and widow had also passed away.
