Frank served in the Civil War with the 60th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Co. I. He enlisted April 16, 1864, at age 15, at Cleveland, OH and gave his residence as Geneva, OH, occupation farmer. He mustered out July 28, 1865 as cook at Division Headquarters. Frank was 5'4-1/2", of fair complexion with dark brown hair and blue eyes. Frank engaged Coal Harbor explosion of mine, Cemetery Hill, Weldon RR. The Captain of Co. I was Wesley Patterson until Oct. 19, 1864, and then Albert Merkle. The Regiment was commanded by James McElroy until Aug. 9, 1864, and then Lt. Col. Martin Avery. (Roster of Ohio Troops 1861-1866) Frank married his first wife Fannie Overley at age 20 in Kalamazoo, MI. They lived on a farm in Nelson Twp., Kent Co., MI and had 3 sons. After Fannie's death in 1878, Frank married his second wife, Edna V. Robinson in Union City, TN and they had 3 sons. Frank had a stroke at age 42 and died 2 years later at age 44. His widow Edna, age 25, was left with 2 infants, 30 acres of land, 2 mares, 2 milk cows and 13 head of hogs. (Declaration for Widow's Pension No. 1098676)

Benjamin Franklin "Frank" Hickok was first married to Fannie Overley. She died young at age 25yrs. on their farm. Together they had 3 sons Hiram, Fred and Guy. Hiram (Uncle Hi) lived with Dee and Mattie (Hickok) Ethridge in Union City, TN. He is buried in the Union City Cemetery in the family plot. After the death of Fannie Overly, B F Hickok married Edna Robinson and they had 4 more sons - Carl, Oren, Louis, and Frank. Carl is buried in the Union City Cemetery. (unioncitymary @ ancestry.com)
