Betty Lou Oliver Wilson Kelly, 84, of Marietta, left to be with our Lord Tuesday (June 30, 2013) at Heartland of Marietta. She was born to the late Charles M. and Pearl R. Bohl Oliver on Dec. 23, 1928, in Marietta. She was a longtime member of the 6th & Washington Street Church of Christ in Marietta.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Howard Russell Wilson of Cleveland and Robert Sebring Kelly of Vincent; stepmother, Juanita Legleitner Oliver; stepsister, Patricia Foy; stepbrother, Fred Legleitner. Two sons, Terry L. Wilson (Lori) of Vincent and Charles R. Kelly of Marietta, and one daughter, Martha A. Kelly; and very good friend, Debbie Baker of Marietta, survive her as well as extended family of one stepsister, Gertie Fryman (Bill) of Marietta and Craig Legleitner (Joan) of Marietta. Two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, on great-great-grandchild and many stepnieces, stepnephews, and cousins also survive Betty.
Betty attended Marion School and Marietta High School before transferring and graduating from Glenville High School in Cleveland, Ohio. While in Cleveland she studied opera and acappella for 10 years, sang professionally for weddings and performed at Cain Park Theatre in Cleveland Heights.
After returning to Marietta, Betty attended Mountain State College and Washington Technical College receiving an Associate Degree in Traffic and Transportation. She worked as traffic coordinator of river traffic for Marbon Chemical and gave traffic seminars at Oglebay Park in Wheeling, W.Va. She was a founding member of Delta Nu Alpha Traffic Club, operated Kelly Traffic Services in Parkersburg and Vincent, Ohio, brokering for independent owner-operators of various trucking companies and retired from Queue Systems in Parkersburg as import-export coordinator.
Betty was a loving and devoted mother but still found time to be a member of Rebekah Lodge in Vincent, Ohio; Vincent Hobby Club; Barlow-Vincent Auxiliary; Marietta Citizens Corp.; R.S.V.P. Volunteer for Selby Nutritional Department; R.S.V.P. O'Neill Center; Ombudsman Volunteer for Marietta Area Agency on Aging; Auxiliary Board of O'Neill Center; O'Neill Tuesday Crafters. Betty was a longtime member of Sweet Adeline's and a life member of VFW #5108 Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid philatelist and enjoyed many needlework projects and a good card game. She always said her most enjoyable years were spent raising her children in Christian living and all the volunteer work in her later years.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday (July 3, 2013) at 6th & Washington Street Church of Christ in Marietta with Roger Rush officiating. The family will greet friends at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of service. A dinner will follow at the church. Abiding with her wishes, there will be no graveside services as she wishes to be cremated and buried at a later date. The family requests that no flowers be sent, but instead make donations to the Community Food Pantry, 318 Front St., Marietta, Ohio, 45750.
