Helen "Pudge" Merle McHaney was born on January 29, 1924 in Longview, Tx.-Gregg Co. to Dee Graffenreid McHaney and Helen Ray McHaney. "Pudge" was a 1939 graduate of Longview High School (Longview, Tx.). Pudge married James Hall Griffin Jr. in 1942 when he returned home from World War II, and they settled in Kilgore, Tx.-Gregg Co.

Pudge was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kilgore, Tx.. She taught the KYB Sunday school class, served on the board of deacons and was an ordained elder. Her deepest affection was singing with the chancel choir.

Pudge was a VOE teacher at Kilgore High School before retiring to enjoy many years as a real estate agent. She also welcomed many new Kilgoreites to town through her welcome wagon and hosting service. She never met a stranger and deeply loved and promoted the city of Kilgore.

She is survived by her son, Jim Griffin and other family members.
