CENTRAL CITY -- Daphne P. Kufeldt, 69, of rural Central City died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Litzenburg Memorial Hospital in Central City.

Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Central City with Ellen Campbell officiating with the assistance of the Revs. Charles Pollard and Joy Savage. Burial is at the Central City Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City.

Mrs. Kufeldt was born Aug. 17, 1931, at Maxwell to Charley I. and Nellie P. (Bullis) Peck. She lived and attended school in Maxwell, Brady and Gothenburg, as well as in Chicago and Blue Island, Ill. She married Philip Kufeldt June 9, 1948, at Lexington. The couple lived in Climax, Colo., and in 1964 returned to farm in the Gothenburg, Genoa and Clarks areas of Nebraska. They moved to farm an acreage east of Central City in 1973.

She worked as a teacher's aide with the Central Nebraska Support Service Program in the Aurora and Grand Island school systems. She retired in 1996.

Mrs. Kufeldt was involved with Scouts, 4-H, as a camp crafts counselor, the Arc , Y.A.R.C., the Hamilton/Merrick County Special Olympic teams and the Pythian Sisters. She was an advocate for the rights of the physically and mentally challenged.

Survivors include two sons, Alex (Susan) Kufeldt of Kearney and Philip (Vickie) Kufeldt of Clarks; one daughter, Patricia (Bill) Bolte of Central City; six grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; four stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, David (Charlene) Peck of Cozad; five sisters, Gail Murray of Ozark, Mo., Shirley (Virgil) Hoskins of Arnold, Charlotte (Merlin) Nelson of Knoxville, Iowa, Barbara Golden of Hastings and Judy (Dennis) Zimbelman of Cozad.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a stepgreat-granddaughter; one brother, Charles Allen; and two sisters, Izola Mae and Sharon Rose.

Memorials may be directed to the Hamilton/Merrick County Special Olympics, Litzenburg Memorial County Hospital Foundation or the Timberlake Ranch Camp.
