Note: Reference to Meshich's burial place has not been found. His mother was buried in this cemetery in 1827. His father Malachi was buried in the Old Stone Church Ground in Oak Grove, near Swedesboro, Gloucester Co., NJ, in 1860, and these remains were later removed to Lake Park Cemetery, Swedesboro, to be interred with those of Malachi's second wife. Meshich's widow (who remarried) was buried in Jordantown Baptist Cemetery with her second husband. And finally, Meshich's twin daughters Mary Torton and Martha Denny are buried in Pennsgrove, NJ, presumably in Riverview Cemetery.
Of the four family burial locations above, it seems likeliest that Meshich was buried with his mother in old Pilesgrove Methodist Cemetery. This is an educated guess, however, and nothing more.
Thus, this memorial is tentatively placed in this location even though no gravestone was found here for Meshich when members of the Genealogical Society of New Jersey listed the inscriptions in this burial ground in 1939. It is certainly possible that Meshich's grave will be located elsewhere, or that his remains were relocated to Jordantown or Riverview. No re-interment was found for him at Lake Park.
