Born June 5, 1943, in Pocahontas, he was the son of Merle and Elmira Ollinger Yocum. On April 28, 1962, he married Sharon Fisher in Keota.
Mr. Yocum worked for Peterson Motors in Storm Lake, was an auto mechanic for Shafer Motors and McWhirter's Chevrolet-Buick, and was a fleet mechanic for the Double Circle Co-op. He owned and operated Y-B Service for the last 15 years.
He was a 1961 graduate of Pocahontas Catholic School and attended GM Technical School in Omaha, Neb. He was a member of Faith Christian Outreach Church and volunteered in the prison ministry at the Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility for 25 years. He had been the president of the Full Gospel Businessmen. He grew up in Pocahontas and lived in Storm Lake for a year after his marriage. He and his wife lived in the Mount Pleasant and Glasgow area for the last 42 years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark Yocum and Jeremy Yocum, both of Mount Pleasant; one daughter, Juli Szedon of Cumming, Ga.; four grandchildren; three brothers, Richard Yocum of St. Joseph, Mo., Joe Yocum of Mount Pleasant, and Henry Yocum of Pochontas; and two sisters, Lillie Buesing of Wells, Minn., and Mary Adriano of Kansas City, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, with family meeting friends from 5 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Yocum will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Christian Outreach Church in Mount Pleasant, with Pastor Monte Knudsen officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
