Belva was the daughter of Samuel M Gordon and Bertha E Collins. She had a sister, Ethel G, and two brothers, Samuel Earl and Lewis E. She was the wife of Herman Theodore Carpenter with whom she had four children--Jeanne, Charles H, Robert E and Kaye I. Belva was born in Pennsylvania but spent most of her life in Wilmington, Delaware where she raised her family and operated small businesses. Belva enjoyed writing poetry, some of which has been published. She is survived by three generations of descendants.
