Virginia D. (Best) Burns, 97, of Bear, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home on August 5, 2017 surrounded by her beloved family and friends. Virginia was a hardworking woman of faith who lived righteously and cared deeply for her family and friends. Never having compromised her own values, those who knew her strived to be better people. Her home was a haven for countless loved ones in need of help, advice, a home-cooked meal, a tongue-lashing, or a story from the past. She enjoyed listening to gospel, crocheting, and gardening, and always shared the fruits of her labor.

Virginia was predeceased by her husband of forty-seven years, Irvin Burns, her parents Alexander and Fannie Best, and eight siblings: Leo Best, Kimble Best, Clyde Best, Wilbur Best, Lucille Cochran, Horace Best, Barbara Ann Sufner, and Ray Francis Best.

She is survived by her sister, Doris Pelkey, her daughters Mary Mims and Susan Whaley (Steve), seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, close friends Rhonda and Jack Ison, and Pat and Bill Shaw.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 11, 2017 at the Newark United Pentecostal Church, 73 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713. The viewing begins at 10:00 am and the service at 11:00 am. Burial will follow the service in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
