Leonard C. Cox, age 88, of Newark, DE, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017.Mr. Cox was born in Fireco, WV on January 3, 1929, and was the son of the late William Nelson Cox and Eunice Mandy (Alley) Cox.

He proudly served his country as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. Mr. Cox worked for the C&O Railroad, Chrysler Corporation, and University of Delaware, but also was a lifelong entrepreneur, who owned and operated a number of businesses over the years, including American White Water Tours, This 'n That Shop and Cox Cedar Fencing. He was a founding member of Calvary Baptist Church in Newark.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Bertha M. (Salts) Cox.

Mr. Cox is survived by his daughter, Debra L. Cox (David Stephenson); son, Timothy W. Cox (Michele); grandchildren, Brandy Cox and Daniel Stephenson (Lori); and great-grandchildren, Kaylah and Riley Stephenson.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm on Friday, January 20, 2017, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where the funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm.

Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, DE.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.
