Margaret Lucinda (Sower) Huyck, age 93, of Dowling, formerly of Belding, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, following a brief stay at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She was born on November 28, 1917, in Belding, Michigan the daughter of William Henry and Frances Elizabeth (Devault) Sower. She graduated from Belding Area Schools and completed some college coursework before working at Belding Brothers Silk Mill. She traveled to Louisiana to marry Eli J. Huyck on December 24, 1941, after his leave was cancelled due to D-day. Released from the army with a back injury, Eli headed to Margaret in Belding. They became first time parents in Belding, then relocated to Kalamazoo to continue working for Jolly Kidds Togs and raised their family there. Margaret and Eli volunteered with the Boys Scouts and Cub Scouts organizations and spent many evenings playing cards and socializing with their close group of friends. Family vacations were spent camping with family and friends. After raising their family they spent some time living and working in Kansas and Louisiana. Following Eli's cancer diagnosis, they returned to Belding to be closer to family. Widowed in 1981, Margaret remained in Belding for 29 years, until she moved in with her daughter for assistance with her care. Margaret was an excellent seamstress and worked for Jolly Kids Togs for three or four years in Kalamazoo. She enjoyed sewing, reading, painting, crocheting, gardening, and crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Belding gardening club for a few years. Margaret loved cooking and thrived on feeding family and friends during visits.
