Mrs. Rachel E. Snyder, 79, of Williamsport, died Dec. 22 in Rose View Manor, Williamsport, where she had lived for the past five years. She was a former resident of Hazleton. Born Sept. 10, 1917, in Shamokin, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur H. and Florence R. (Seaman) Raup.
She was a 1935 graduate of Coal Township High School, and a 1936 graduate of Pierce Business College, Philadelphia.
Before her marriage, she was employed as an executive secretary at Prudential Insurance Co., Shamokin.
She was a member of Diamond United Methodist Church, Hazleton, and active in the United Methodist Women and the Gleaners Sunday School Class.
She was a 36-year member of the Girl Scouts of America, having served as president of the Anthracite Girl Scout Council, and Penns Woods Council for nine years. She led Brownie and Junior Scout troops and served on the boards for Camp Shehaqua and Camp Joy Low.
Other community activities include the boards of directors of the Hazleton State General Hospital Auxiliary, the United Way and Salvation Army.
She helped with deliveries for Meals on Wheels, and was an active member of the Hazleton Art League.
Preceding her in death was her husband, George H., on Dec. 10, 1994.
Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Sally A. Gardy, Muncy; Mrs. Nancy S. Boyer, Montoursville; and two grandsons.
Funeral services were to be held from the Sanders Mortuary, Williamsport, followed by burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Elysburg.
