Basil James Marnoff, age 70, of Minneapolis, MN, formerly of Chaska, MN, died Monday, August 4, 2014, at the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Minneapolis.

Funeral Service will be held Thursday, August 7, 2014, 11:00 AM at the Bertas Funeral Home, 200 W. 3rd St., Chaska, with Father Fernando Ortega officiating. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, at 12:45 PM meeting at Assembly Area #5.

Basil was born June 21, 1944 in Minneapolis, MN, to Basil and Lorraine (Erickson) Marnoff, one of two sons. Basil was baptized and confirmed at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Chaska, and also attended the parochial school until 1960. He graduated from Chaska High School in 1964. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1964-1974, during the Vietnam War in 1969-1970. He then re-enlisted in the Navy Reserves from 1976-1978. He then attended the Gemological Institute of America in Santa Monica, CA, in 1978. Basil lived in New York until 1985 when he returned to California. In May of 1992 he resided in Chaska, before moving to Minneapolis. Basil was employed at Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake starting in 1993, and in January of 1995 he became a blackjack dealer until he was no longer able to work due to health concerns. He was a certified scuba diver, receiving his certificate in Hawaii, and enjoyed music and being with his friends.

Basil was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Robert.

Basil was survived by many close friends and acquaintances.

Funeral arrangements were with the Bertas Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Chaska, MN.
