Born Sept 19, 1918 in Wayesboro, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Emma J. (Smith) Cool.
He was a 1936 graduate of Waynesboro High School; and attended business college and service school.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the US Army. He served in the Army Reserves.
He was employed by Major Supply Management Agency at Letterkenny Depot in Chambersburg, Pa., retiring in 1974. He was formerly employed by Wyand Baking Company and Landis Tool Co., both in Waynesboro.
He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro, the Usher's Club and was assistant secretary of the Sunday SChool.
He was past commander of William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695 and VFW District 21, and a member of A.T.H.&L. Fire Co., BPO Elks Lodge 731, Order of the Owls Nest 1073, Eagles Club Inc., South Chapter AARP, all in Waynesboro, Goodwill Fire Co. in Chambersburg, and National AARP.
He volunteered with the Veterans Affairs Volunteer Services at Martinsburg VA Medical Center. He served on the hospital committee of the VFW Department of Pennsylvania.
He is survived by his wife, Mary J. (Guyer) Cool, whom he married Aug 2, 1947; one daughter, Jeanne M. Mireles of Fairbanks, Al; one son, Jay M. Cool of Duncansville, Pa; two sisters, Reberdia Benjamin of Mont Alto, Pa and Ann Ferguson of Waynesboro; one brother O. Ray Cool of Waynesboro; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.
He wa preceded in death by two sisters, Viola Creager and Jane Ingram; four brothers, Chester Cool, Harper Cool, George Cool and Charles Cool; and one grandson.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Grove-Browersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Braod St. Waynesboro. The Rev. Richard A. Seaks will offiiate. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg, with military honors by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 in Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends at the fumeral home Friday from 7-9 p.m.
