Lloyd T. Posey, Sr. was born in Virginia to a veteran of the American Revolutionary War, 1775-1783; General Thomas Posey and his 2nd wife Mary ALEXANDER Thornton Posey being 1 of their 11 children together.

His father Thomas was born 'of respectable parentage', and was a very accomplished man in the military and government devoting himself throughout life to the creation and success of our New Nation during the historic Revolutionary War, and Post-War Era.

His mother Mary was born the daughter of John Alexander who represented Stafford County in the Virginia House of Burgesses, and Lucy THORNTON Alexander. Mary is also the grand-daughter of Capt. Philip Alexander II (#107112287), the namesake co-founder of Alexandria, VA and Sarah HOOE Alexander (#107112190), and is named for her maternal grandmother Mary TALIAFERRO Thornton.

Lloyd T. Posey, Sr. would grow up with his many siblings in Spotsylvania Co, VA and later in Henderson Co, KY where his father moved their family in 1794 following his years of service in the American Revolutionary War. There in Kentucky is where his father's career in government began.

Of age, Lloyd traveled south with his father to Louisiana upon his father's appointment as a US Senator of Louisiana during the years 1812-1813. There, Lloyd T. Posey enlisted and served in the War of 1812 as a Private in the 16th Louisiana Regiment, Thompson's Company. He soon met and married Helen Eleanor COLLINS Posey on 07 Apr 1813 in St Landry Parish, LA. The couple would begin to raise their young children before Lloyd and Eleanor each died at an early age (before the age of 40).

Now orphaned, their children were well cared for by various aunts and uncles in Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois. Two of their children would eventually return to their place of birth where they lived out their lives in/around Opelousas, LA and are laid to rest with their parents. The other two children lived out their lives in/around Henderson Co, KY and are laid to rest with their grandfather and veteran of the American Revolutionary War, General Thomas Posey.
