Richard Tyrrell was a Chief Engineer with the Red Star Line. His family originally lived in Liverpool, and later relocated to Belgium, during the years when he sailed between Antwerp, New York, and Philadelphia. After retirement, he moved back to Liverpool. Richard died in 1920 in Chester, PA, while visiting his son Ernest Tyrrell.
