Portions of his obituary:
The Post-Search Light, Bainbridge, Ga, July 26, 1917:
On last Wednesday at noon, July 18, the community was shocked to hear of the death of Mr. J. W. Arline.
He had been in ill health for some time, in bed for over three months. ..
"Uncle Whit", as he was commonly known by all, was born November 30th, 1939 in Decatur county, near the spot where he died....On account of his afflictions, he never married. When only a mere baby, he was stricken with that dreaded disease, scarlet fever, leaving him deaf the remainder of his days.
When the Civil War broke out he rendered faithful services. He did not fight, but was a great help in nursing the soldiers in the hospitals at Macon and Oglethorpe...
Mr. Arline was the son of Mrs. Eliza and Mr. Jesse Arline, being among the 15 children born to make their home happy, all of whom preceeded him to the Glory World, except four...G. C. and H. H. Arline, Mrs. Jeannie Sapp, and Miss Margaret C. Arline.
