Daniel J. Bradley, Major, US Air Force Retired, a resident of Dothan, died peacefully at his home on April 12, 2003 after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was 71.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at St. Columba Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Gallagher officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday with the wake service beginning at 7 p.m.

Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, P.O. Drawer 2127, Dothan, AL, 36302.

Mr. Bradley was born on May 17, 1931, in Ulysses, Neb., to Stephen and Margaret Bradley, later relocating to Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, where he grew up. In 1951, he enlisted in the Air Force and served 21 years, including tours in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. In Vietnam, he served as Tower Chief at Saigon Airport. After retiring from the Air Force, he continued to serve his country for 21 years with Civil Service at Fort Rucker, AL, beginning as an Air Traffic Control instructor. He later was assigned Project Officer for fielding the Blackhawk Simulator, both nationally and abroad, traveling extensively in the Far East and Europe. He held a Master Navigator/Bombardier rating in several aircraft. He graduated from Troy State University Dothan with a Masters in Education. Mr. Bradley was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church and was active as an Usher for many years.

Mr. Bradley was predeceased by his parents and a brother and sister-in-law, John and Marty Bradley.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Joan Bradley, Dothan; three sons, Daniel James Bradley, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Terry, of Slocomb, Mark Morgan Bradley and daughter-in-law, Judy of Gilbert, AZ, and Michael Stephan Bradley of Dothan; a sister, Mary Margaret Wolters and husband, Don, of Estherville, Iowa; two brothers, Charles Bradley and wife, Jean, of Denver, CO, Gerald Bradley and wife, Judy of Arnolds Park, Iowa; grandchildren, Leah Danielle Bradley of Ashford, Sydney Elizabeth Bradley and Andrew Michael Bradley of Gilbert, AZ; one great-granddaughter, Katelyn Shea Bradley of Ashford; several nieces and nephews also survive.
