Ocala - Earl M. Robbins passed on peacefully on July 26, 2014. He was born on September 26, 1917 in Otter Creek, FL.
Earl's father, A.L. Robbins, died when he was six years old. He, his mother, and sisters then lived in Chiefland, Trenton, Micanopy, McIntosh, Trilby and Plant City before settling in Ocala in 1933. There they all spent most of their remaining years.
At the age of 17, Earl left Ocala High (Class of '36) to help support his family by working in a number of downtown Ocala businesses. Among them was Bitting's Drugs, where he was the very first employee.
On his 25th birthday, he left for Camp Blanding and served over three years in the Army of the U.S. in WWII.
Earl graduated in 1955 from Florida Southern College, where he had met the love of his life, Beatrice.
After years as an office manager for Florida Telephone, a family grocery business and Craggs & Phelan Construction, he retired to lovingly care for Bea in their home until her death in 1990.
Earl was a longtime aficionado of music, especially Big Band, which he shared with many, including fellow residents of Emeritus East ALF, where he resided for over five years.
He was a founding member of Living Hope Community Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice, mother Hattie Danforth, and sisters Louise Kerr and Norma McNeal (Mrs. Norton), and infant sister, Laverne. Survivors include niece, Janice Owen of Ocala, nephew, Larry Kerr of Murphy, NC, great-nephew, Clinton Kay, his caretaker since 2000, and many other nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Living Hope Community Church, 2111 N.E. 36th Avenue, with former pastor and devoted friends, Dr. Gerald & Dorothy Joan Simmons officiating.
Arrangements are in the care of Countryside Funeral Home, Anthony, FL.
