U.S. Congressman. After he graduated from the law department of the University of Michigan in 1882, he was admitted to the bar and opened a law practice in LaFayette, Indiana. He was prosecuting attorney of Tippecanoe County (1890-94) and a member of the Indiana State Senate (1896-1914). In 1915, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-fourth Congress and to the next eight succeeding Congresses, serving until his sudden death while on a visit in New York City.
