Joseph D. Miller owned and operated Millers Landing on the east side of Webster Lake. Residents built their cottages and Joe collected annual rent from them for the use of his property. When he died, his wife Julia took over collecting the rent. Julia also had a cottage at Millers Landing which she rented out.
Joseph's parents, David & Sophia, owned the land on the east side of Webster Lake beginning in 1858.
After his father, David D. Miller, died in 1865 and was buried at Salem Cemetery, Noble County, Indiana, his mother Sophia (Wolf) Miller deeded a portion of the Miller land to be used "as a burying ground" for the United Brethren Church. On the same day in 1868, Sophia's neighbor Joseph D. Weimer deeded a portion of his land across the road to the north to be used for the building of the United Brethren Church.
Years later after the 1889 split of the United Brethren, a 2nd church was built on the south portion of Oak Grove Cemetery and for a while both churches stood. The two churches have been gone for many years.
Before Sophia died between 1876-1878 she deeded land to her children or their spouses. She deeded land to Levi Snoke, Cyrus Weimer, Noah Mock, John E. Miller and Joseph D. Miller.
To this day a bit of this land is owned by Miller descendants. Joseph & Julia's home is now gone and is part of the Indiana State Land but the remains of the old flowing well are still there. The barn Joseph D. Miller built in 1907 is still standing at the top of the hill of the Millers Landing sign.

Joseph and Julia were the parents of 11 children. Neither Joseph nor Julia were married to second spouses.
