William II was born the son of his namesake father, William Y. Wingfield I and Mary Ann MESSER Wingfield along the VA/NC border in Surry Co, NC only a few months after the victorious Battle of Yorktown, 1781 had ensured the birth of a New Nation.

Extensive research and documentation completed by 'The Wingfield Society' follows his own Wingfield family ancestry back to British immigrant, William Wingfield (father of Robert and Jarvis) arriving in Gloucester County, Virginia Colony in 1668.

In the year 1792, the 'Kentucky Territory' had resolved terms with its separation from Virginia and was founded that year as the 15th State of the USA. It was at this time that William's father brought their young family west to Warren Co, KY where they settled, and it is here he met and married Sophia Echols HOLCOMB Wingfield on 06 Sep 1806.

With the Louisiana Purchase, 1803 the USA had taken possession of the entire Ohio and Mississippi River Valleys. The 'Illinois Territory' was created in 1809 and within months William and Sophia migrated from Warren Co, KY to its very 1st County - St. Clair Co, IL. Soon after, William was enlisted and served in the War of 1812 as a Private in the Illinois Mounted Militia, Capt. Samuel Judy's Company.

His young family would grow up here in Illinois as it became the 21st state of the USA in 1818. But by the year 1820, William was granted 80 acres for his military service in the 'Arkansas Territory'; and today's Hempstead and Clark Co, AR. The Wingfield family would settle here for 30+ years in Arkansas where some of William's siblings also lived and are laid to rest.
