He got his first art job as an 'inker' of film cells for Walter Lantz Studios. He was a self-taught artist. Quickly, Emery was moved to animator.Next, he moved to Charles Mintz's Studios where he toiled as an animator. He was employed at Walt Disney Studio but did not work on feature cartoons. Emery moved around from job to job, freelancing and working in a number of styles.
