In speaking of the San Saba mob... "Some killed because they were sadists; some killed for revenge; others because they had grudges, who took advantage of the mob and went out surreptitiously as lone wolves. As in the case of a Mr. Kell in 1890, who had spent the day drinking in Goldthwaite and on his way home driving a mule team to a new wagon; at about dark he was fired upon and killed; the team carried the wagon with the dead body in it to his wife and two children. Tracks of one man were found behind a large oak near the place where he was killed. Who killed him and why he was killed is still a mystery."
