Benjamin took up the cause of the Revolution and joined the army of Virginia. He was a personal friend of Gen. George Washington, who made him one of his aides. On 10 Feb 1773 he married Elizabeth French, d/o Daniel and Penelope (Manely) French of "Claremont" Fairfax Co, VA, and ward of Gen. Washington, who gave her away at her marriage. Not long after this event, Benjamin presented to Gen. Washington the celebrated horse Blueskin which he rode during the Revolution. Col. Dulany's favorite country seat was "Shuters Hill" near Alexandria, VA where he and his wife were buried.
