Age 62, son of Helen Parrish Byrd of Erie and the late William R. Byrd. He was a 1961 graduate of McDowell High School. He owned and operated Millcreek Plastics until his retirement in 1996. He was a lifelong musician and a devoted volunteer at Presque Isle Stull Center.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 41 years, Karen Jackson Byrd; three daughters, Sandra Stevenson, Stacey Lorei and her husband Randy, and Shantel Kay and her husband Greg; a son, Steven Byrd and his wife Dorothy, all of Erie; two brothers, Bob Byrd and his wife Barbara of N.C., and Randolph Byrd of Va.; a sister, Carol Ketchel and her husband Gordon, of Erie; and eight grandchildren, Stephanie Bostaph, Robert and Rachel Byrd, Brandon, Matthew, and Joshua Lorei, and Mitchell and Bryant Kay. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
